At the beginning of this year I was invited to photograph the Hashknife Pony Express again for the 65th Annual Ride. The Hashknife Pony Express is a volunteer organization that honors the history of the old west. The riders are officially sworn in by the United States Post Office to transport mail on horseback. Many of the riders are retired sheriff deputies or police officers and the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office assists with closing off the highway for the event.

When I photographed this event last year I was only able to attend the events in Holbrook, Arizona. For this year’s event I was able to make time to follow the Hashknife group from Holbrook to Scottsdale over the course of 4 days. The route took us along small state highways and we made stops in Heber-Overgaard, Payson and Fountain Hills.

I attended the event along with a few other Northern Arizona University Photo Students. Thank you to Amy Horn for getting us in contact with the Hashknife Organization!
